Into The Breech -Walking the Western Front Way

We are Isla Morrison and Jonathan Parrott, related through marriage by Isla’s sister and Jonathan’s wife, Gemma.  We are both UK Army veterans and from Saturday 18 March to 21 April 2023 we walked the length of the 1914-18 Western Front, unsupported, from the Swiss/French border to the Belgium coastal town of Nieuwpoort; a total distance of 652 miles/1050 km.  The journe took 35 days, with 2 rest days: the first in Verdun after 270 miles and the second in Soissons at 440 miles.  We arrived in Nieuwpoort on Friday 21 April 2023, and returned to Ypres to lay a wreath at the Menin Gate that evening, marking the end of our journey.
